(M.S., International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad; Ph.D., Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen, Germany), Assistant Professor of TESL/Applied Linguistics, is a computational linguist and is interested in the application of Natural Language Processing and computational methods for educational applications. Her current research interests are: text readability assessment, automatic text simplification, and automatic analysis of the language used by learners. More broadly, she is interested in multi-lingual text processing and application of machine learning for textual data. On the non-technical side, Sowmya is interested in English and Telugu literature and translated two non-fiction books, one from English to Telugu and the other from Telugu to English.
