Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) can be studied as an undergraduate at Iowa State University through a TESL Minor or through the K-12 Endorsement. For information about graduate programs in TESL visit the Applied Linguistics Program page.
Minor in TESL
The TESL minor is for Iowa State University students in any major who think they would like to teach English overseas after they graduate. This program gives training in understanding how languages, especially English, work; how people learn additional languages; how cultures and languages interact; and how to teach English as a second language.
K-12 ESL Endorsement
The K-12 endorsement is an add-on endorsement for students in elementary or secondary education who want to be certified to teach English as an additional language in the public schools in the United States. As an add-on endorsement, it is only available to students who have a primary endorsement in another area.
